[ἀείρατ’ ἆ]θλον, ἀλλὰ τᾶι τέχναι σοφὸς
[μελωιδ]ός, αὐλῶι φθόγγον εὖ προσαρμόσας,
[Μουσᾶ]ν ὅπως μελιχρὸν ἀπύσαι μέλος
5 [βάσ]ιν τιθεὶς πρὸς τέρμα καίριον ῥυθμῶι.
[ — ]ΛΙΣΔΕΙΑ παρ[κ]ειμένοις ἄειδ’ ἀεί.
οὕτως ἐνῆς ἐν τῶι μέλει πολλὰ φάσις.
τοιόσδ’ ἐὼν ἀείρατ’ ἐγ Μουσᾶν ἐμέ,
Στράτων ἀγῶνος, σφᾶι πάτραι μέγα κλέος.
10 ἃ Θεσπία δ’ ἔοικεν οὐ μόνομ φέρειν
ἄνδρας μα[χ]ητάς, ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐμ Μούσαις ἄκρους.
Translations (en):
… raised me as a prize, but an αὐλῳδός skilled in his art, thoroughly
attuning his voice to the aulos to sing the honey-sweet melody of the
Muses, setting to perfection the metrical cadence suitable to the rhythm.
Everyone always came? to attend his vocal performance. There was so
much resonance in his singing. Straton, as such, raised me at the ἀγὠν
of the Muses, great glory for his fatherland. It appears that Thespiae not
only produces warriors but also excellent men in the art of the Muses.

“… mi sollevava come premio, ma un αὐλῳδός esperto nell’arte, che accordava bene la voce all’aulos per cantare la melodia dolce delle Muse, definendo alla perfezione una cadenza adatta all’andamento ritmico. … tutti giunsero per assistere al suo concerto. Senz’altro c’era molto suono nel suo canto. Straton, che era così, mi sollevò dal concorso delle Muse, grande gloria per la sua patria. Tespie sembra non soltanto procurare uomini abili in battaglia ma anche eccellenti nell’arte delle Muse.”

tripod, in the literary fiction narrates firsthand the talents of this
professional.
