“The citizens of Delphi granted Philodamos from Skarpheia, the son of Ainesidamos, his brothers Epigenes, […] and his descendants, proxeny, priority in access to the oracle, privileged seating at the festivals, priority in legal judgements, exemption from the taxes, and the rights as the other citizens of Delphi. Under the archonship of Etymondas, […] Pleistonos, Kallikrates were bouletai. Since Philodamos and his brothers composed(?) the paian for Dionysos and Philodamos, following the oracle of the god, promised to make use of […]. Good Fortune”.

“I Delfi conferirono a Philodamos di Skarpheia figlio di Ainesidamos, e ai suoi fratelli Epigenes e [–]ntis, a loro e ai discendenti, il diritto di precedenza nella consultazione dell’oracolo, la proedria, il diritto di precedenza in giudizio, l’esenzione dal pagamento delle tasse e gli stessi diritti dei Delfi. Sotto l’arcontato di Etymondas, essendo buleuti Pleiston, Kallikrates. … Poiché Philodamos e i suoi fratelli composero (?) il peana per Dioniso e Philodamos, secondo l’oracolo del dio, ha promesso di fare uso … , alla buona fortuna.”
Commentary (it):
Questo decreto, iscritto sotto il testo del celebre peana a Dioniso (Furley-Bremer 2001 II, 53-57), onora Philodamos e i suoi fratelli, conferendo loro lo status giuridico dei cittadini di Delfi. La ragione delle onorificenze è connessa con la composizione poetica per Dioniso e con l’oracolo di Apollo ma, a causa delle lacune testuali, non è possibile definire il ruolo degli onorati, se essi siano i compositori oppure i finanziatori del testo poetico (e della sua esecuzione?).
Commentary (en):
This decree, inscribed beneath the paian for Dionysos, recognises proxeny and related privileges to Philodamos and his brothers, granting them the status of citizens of Delphi. The rewards are related to the paean to Dionysus and the oracle of Apollo but, because of the lacunae excruciating in the text, we cannot precisely determine whether the laudati correspond to the composers or to the financial sponsors for the poetic composition (and its performance).
