ἔδοξε τᾶι πόλει τῶν Δελφῶν ἐν ἀγορᾶι τελεί-
ωι σὺν ψάφοις ταῖς ἐννόμοις· ἐπειδὴ Κλεόδωρος
καὶ Θρασύβουλος οἱ Θεοξενίδα Φενεᾶται παρα-
5 γενόμενοι ποθ’ ἁμὲ ἐπιδείξεις ἐποιήσαντο τῶι
θεῶι διὰ τὸς μουσικὰς τέχνας, ἐν αἷς καὶ εὐδοκί-
μουν, προφερόμενοι ἀριθμοὺς τῶν ἀρχαίων ποιη-
τᾶν, οἳ ἦσαν πρέποντες ποτί τε τὸν θεὸν καὶ τὰν πό-
λιν ἁμῶν, ἔτι δὲ καὶ τὰν ἐνδαμίαν καὶ ἀναστροφὰν
10 καὶ διδασκαλίαν τῶν παίδων ἐποιήσαντο ἀξίως
αὐσωτῶν τε καὶ τᾶς ἰδίας πατρίδος καὶ τᾶς ἁμε-
τέρας πόλιος, — — ἀγαθᾶι τύχαι, δεδόχθαι τᾶι πό-
λει τῶν Δελφῶν ἐπαινέσαι Κελόδωρον καὶ Θρασύ-
βουλον ἐπί τε τᾶι ἀναστροφᾶι καὶ τᾶι φιλοτιμίαι ἇι
15 τυγχάνοντι ἔχοντες ἐν τῶι ἐπιταδεύματι, καὶ εἶ-
μεν αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐκγόνοις παρὰ τᾶς πόλιος τῶν Δελφῶν
προξενίαν, προμαντείαν, προδικίαν, ἀσυλίαν, ἀτέλειαν,
προεδρίαν ἐμ πᾶσι τοῖς ἀγώνοις οἷς ἁ πόλις τίθητι, εἶ-
μεν δὲ αὐτοῖς καὶ γᾶς καὶ οἰκίας ἔνκτησιν καὶ τὰ ἄλλα
20 τίμια πάντα, ὅσα καὶ τοῖς ἄλλοις προξένοις καὶ εὐερ-
γέταις τᾶς πόλιος τῶν Δελφῶν. ἄρχοντος Ἀμύντα,
βουλευόντων τὰν πρώταν ἑξάμηνον Κλέωνος τοῦ
Διονυσίου, Ξενοκρίτου τοῦ Στησιμένεος, γραμματεύ-
οντος Μνασιδάμου τοῦ Ξενοκρίτου.

“God. To good fortune. It was resolved by the city of Delphi, in full assembly, with legitimate vote: since Kleodoros and Thrasyboulos from Pheneos, the sons of Theoxenidas, who came to us, delivered demonstrations for the god through the musical art, in which they were highly esteemed, presented the rhythmic patterns of the ancient poets which were appropriate to the god and to our city and conducted their stay, their behavior, and served a lesson to the children in a honorable way for themselves, for their fatherland, and for our city: to good fortune, the city of Delphi resolved to praise Kleodoros and Thrasyboulos for their behaviour and their zeal in their profession and grant them and their descendants with proxeny, the right of priority in access to the oracle and court, immunity for their possessions, exemption from all taxes, privileged seating at the festivals that the city holds; shall they have the right to possess land and home as well, and all further privileges that belong to the proxenoi and benefactors of the city. Under the archonship of Amyntas, Kleon the son of Dionysios, Xenokritos the son of Stesimenes were bouletai for the first semester and Mnasidamos the son of Xenokritos was secretary.”

Sembrò bene alla città di Delfi, in assemblea perfetta, con voto legittimo: poiché Kleodoros e Thrasyboulos di Pheneos, figli di Theoxenidas, essendo giunti presso di noi tennero delle dimostrazioni per il dio attraverso le competenze musicali, nelle quali ottennero anche buona fama
applicando le cadenze ritmiche dei poeti antichi, le quali erano consone al dio e alla nostra città e ancora soggiornarono e tennero un comportamento e un insegnamento ai fanciulli in modo degno di loro stessi, della propria patria e della nostra città: alla buona fortuna, è sembrato bene alla città di Delfi di lodare Kleodoros e Thrasyboulos per la condotta e lo zelo che mostrano nella professione e siano a loro e ai discendenti da parte della città di Delfi la prossenia, il diritto di precedenza nella consultazione dell’oracolo e in giudizio, l’immunità per i propri beni, l’esenzione dal pagamento delle tasse, la proedria in tutti gli agoni che la città bandisce; a loro siano riconosciuti anche il diritto di possesso di terra e casa e tutti gli altri onori, quanti appartengono anche agli altri prosseni ed evergeti della città di Delfi. Sotto l’arcontato di Amyntas, essendo buleuti del primo semestre Kleon figlio di Dionysios, Xenokritos figlio di Stesimenes e segretario Mnasidamos figlio di Xenokritos.”

The city of Delphi entrusted the preservation of the musical tradition to the brothers from Pheneos in
Arcadia who offered ἐπιδείξεις, (scil. demonstrations), intended to recall the rhythmic patterns of the ancient poets into the Delphian audience.
Commentary (it):
A questi due fratelli giunti da Pheneos in Arcadia la città di Delfi affida la memoria della tradizione. Il termine ἐπιδείξεις indica, più che performance a scopo di intrattenimento, delle esecuzioni volte a rievocare nella mente del pubblico la musica della tradizione e a insegnare all’uditorio più giovane le cadenze ritmiche dei poeti antichi.
